Jiu jitsu meets everyday life: I am certain everyone who reads this has had two life experiences. The first is that of walking along comfortably but perhaps focused on something else and then tripping over an unseen obstacle such as a curb and stumbling to the ground. The second is that of walking and taking a step on to a slippery surface such as ice and once again falling to the ground. You can create both of these everyday effects in Jiu jitsu through the use of your feet. Catching your opponent mid step with your foot recreates the curb trip. Sweeping his foot just prior to it making contact with the mat recreates the icy floor. Much of what seems like complex technique in Jiu jitsu is just a recreation of fairly simple ideas we have been familiar with since childhood set in another context
