When you put hands on an opponent you're always taking a risk – make it worth it: Any time you go to reach for an opponent you have to sacrifice defensive responsibility to some degree. A good opponent can take advantage of that – so make sure you make the risk worthwhile. What is the benefit of putting hands on the other fellow? When you come to grips you can MOVE him and break HIS stance/balance – that's the reward for your risk. So make sure you never just complacently reach out and put hands on an opponent – if you're going to grip – grip with a purpose. Immediately get him moving or off balance or out of position – make sure for every risk you take there is a potential reward that justifies it
