Stay in the game: There are few routes as frustrating as combat sports. Everything you do is against the skilled resistance of your sparring partners who learn all the same techniques and tactics that you do and progress at a similar rate. This means you never really feel like you're improving because they are improving alongside you. It's natural to feel disheartened as time passes and each sparring round feels as difficult as your first classes. hang in there – in thirty years I've never seen cases of students who trained diligently over long periods of time who didn't make significant improvements despite what you feel. Stay in the game – that's the most fundamental demand for continued progress. Yes, there are things you can do to speed progress, but nothing can make up for the most basic demand of all for excellence – longevity in the game
