The better your opponent the more important your second, third or fourth move becomes: When you begin Jiu jitsu it's hard enough just to perform even a single move well against resistance so you naturally tend to focus on executing that one move as well as you can with no thought of what comes next. As you go against better and better opponents they defend that first move very well so that there is little chance of it succeeding. That's when you need to change your mentality and start prioritizing the second or even third or fourth moves, since that is where the breakthrough will be achieved. Making this mental transition from a kind of mental myopia worrying about only the move in front of you to having a far sighted vision that extends out two, three or four moves out into the future is a key part of your transformation from beginner to expert.
