Use your weight: Once you're in top position and you're no longer being held between your opponents knees it's time to start using your weight to create pressure. Of course it's easier to do this when you're big and heavy, but I assure you – even a small person can be shockingly effective using body weight to slow and immobilize a bigger opponent if they know what they're doing. Sixty kilograms of well applied bodyweight will greatly outperform one hundred kilograms of poorly applied bodyweight. Try to FOCUS the application of your weight. Don't just apply it across a broad area. Have a target in mind and use your legs to direct your weight on to that target. The head and shoulders is the most desirable target but you can't always go straight there so learn to target other areas as well. Whatever weight you are – learn to maximize its use and you'll be a formidable threat when on top!
